My name is Kelly O’Gara, my pronouns are she/her, and I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor with the State of Massachusetts (license # 12240). I received my Master of Art in Counseling Psychology from Framingham State University. I also have a certificate in Solution-Focused Brief therapy and additional training on Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
Prior to starting my private practice, I have worked with children and families as an In-Home Therapist with Aspire Health Alliance. I provided crisis interventions, facilitated family communication strategies, collaborated with schools and other providers, and utilized a strengths-based approach to help stabilize children and adolescents. Additionally, I have worked as an outpatient counselor at Volunteers of America Behavioral Health Services. As an outpatient therapist, I worked with children, adolescents, adults and couples to provide a variety of treatment, including substance use recovery, trauma counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy, coaching, career counseling, and solution-focused therapy.
What is Solution-Focused Brief Therapy?
Solution-focused brief therapy is a client-centered, strengths based approach that focuses on helping clients feel empowered, motivated and in charge of their healing, growth and overall mental health. As a Solution-Focused therapist, I believe that you are the expert of your life. You have a say in how counseling goes and what you want to focus on in session. My role is to be a support and a guide, highlighting your strengths, resources, growth, goals and more. My goal is to help my clients move from problems-based thinking to solution-focused thinking. We will work collaboratively to find coping skills and solutions that will work uniquely for you.
